Infantry Regiment Stoottroepen Naar Djocjacarta 1948

5TH REGIMENT STOOTTROEPEN
During the 2nd Police Action the battalion took part in the seizing of Jogjacarta and the capture of the republican leaders. Being transported by air from Kalibentang at Semarang to the airfield Magoewo at Jogjacarta the first Dutch battalion unit to be transported this way. After seizing the town the battalion was used to secure it.  
After the 2nd Police Action the time was used on patrolling and securing in the area around Jogjakarta. On 1st March 1949 the TNI attacked Jogjakarta. An attack which was not repulsed before after six hours of heavy battle. On 10th March 1949 the battalion participated in an action around Wonosari together with the Korps Speciale Tropen, 5-5 Regiment Infanterie and 5-6 Regiment Infanterie. After which the battalion took over the positions of the 5-5 Regiment Infanterie around Kalioerang, Tjebongan en Prambanan.  
On 29th June 1949 Jogjakarta was returned to the republicans after pressure from the United Nations. The 1-15 Regiment Infanterie was the last unit to leave Jogjakarta and move to Poerwaredja. At the end of October 1949 the battalion was transferred to Semarang and used for guard duty. The battalion stayed here until its repatriation leaving onboard “Nelly” on 7th April 1950 arriving in the Netherlands on 2nd May 1950.

                                                 5-5th INFANTRY REGIMENT

During the 2nd Police Action on 19th December 1948 the 5-5th Infantry Regiment moved over land to Djocjacarta. Except the pioneers who flew to Djocjacarta together with the commandos. Being reunited with the rest of the 5-5th Infantry Regiment on 21st December 1948 when it arrived in Djocjacarta. The day after on 22nd December 1948 the 5-5th Infantry Regiment was ordered to advance towards Magelang, which already was seized by Infanterie V KNIL. Taking over the securing of Magelang on 23rd December 1948. On 24th December the 5-5th Infantry Regiment seized Temanggoeng and on 25th December Parakan. In connexion with operation “Zuid” the 5-5e Regiment Infanterie was transferred to Djocjacarta on 12th and 13th January 1949. This action started on 18th January 1948 and cleared the area south of Djocjacarta. After this action the 5-5th Infantry Regiment took up positions in Sentolo, Barongan, Bantoel and Karangsemoet but after three weeks they were cleared. On 6th March 1949 the Support Company from the 5e Garde Regiment Grenadiers was transferred to the 5-5th Infantry Regiment and stationed in Kota Gedeh. Later on the company was disbanded and its members spread out on the rest of 5-5e Regiment Infanterie. On 16th March the positions in Sentolo, Barongan and Bantoel was given over to 5e Regiment Stoottroepen.
On 18th March 1949 the 5-5th Infantry Regiment was station in Djocjacarta were it stayed until the evacuation of that city on 29th June 1949. On 1st July 1949 the 5-5th Infantry Regiment took over positions around Klaten from Infanterie I KNIL and 4-9e Infantry Regiment but it was given no rest in this area either. After this area was given over to the TNI the 5-5th Infantry Regiment moved to Koedoes. And on 18th December 1949 the 5-5th Infantry Regiment was stationed in Oengaran were it was relieved on 13th March 1950 by the 425th Battalion Infanterie. In Semarang the Grenadiers was transferred back to their own unit. And on 20th March 1950 the 5-5e Regiment Infanterie was stationed in Buitenzorg waiting on its repatriation. On 20th April 1950 the 5-5e Regiment Infanterie left onboard “Nelly” arriving back in the Netherlands on 2nd May 1950.
